The first note

The first note, "Divine Comedy," was created on July 20th, 2013 at this location.

...was created with the original plnkx app.

PostEnotes came into being by way of a mobile-app called plnkx. Plnkx is a portmanteau of internet place link, and may one day grow up to be the commercial version of PostEnotes (plnkx.com).

Because of performance problems with the app, as well as other demands that take time away from 'side projects', the application languished and was eventually replaced in 2023 by this web-based version.

The location of the note is significant to me because it's where I worked at the time. I had a job with a large airplane manufacturer and I would test the app on my phone every morning on my way into work.

As soon as I got close to my usual parking spot, the app would notify me. That's how I tested the app. It was configured to alert when I came in close proximity to a posted note.

Then I'd get out of my car and walk towards the corner of the building where I'd get another notification telling me I was at the corner of the building again. The corner was notification number two.

Notification number three came just before reaching the main doors. My phone would buzz and I'd look down at The Divine Comedy note reminding me to: Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.

The idea of abandoning all hope every morning before going into work put a smile on my face.
